One of the famous names of PFC Levski – Georgi “Gonzo” Ivanov is the new president of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU).
The former footballer was elected by 235 votes in his support (with 234 needed) leaving behind the Bulgarian football legend Dimitar Bertrabot (who has played for the CSKA Sofia, Bayer Leverkusen, Tottenham, Manchester United, Fulham and other teams), who received 181 votes. Seven candidates took part in the vote for president of the BFU. Dimitar Berbatov was the first to have taken up arms against Borislav Mihaylov and the poor management of Bulgarian football.
Georgi Ivanov is taking over from Borislav Mihaylov who resigned as President of the Bulgarian Football Union last November after an escalation of street protests by football fans. Borislav Mihaylov was president of the BFU from 2005 until 2019, and again from 2021 until 2023.
