The Bulgarian-Romanian border is now monitored from the air. The start was made on the Romanian side in Giurgiu in the presence of the Bulgarian partners from the Border Police in Ruse.
Chief Commissioner Viorel Kiran said that the area of the inspectorate spans 450 km and soon the inspectorate in Giurgiu will have the first drone for the purpose, BTA reports.
"As members of the Schengen area, we are obliged to take measures and that's why we are making joint patrols in the border zone together. Now we are also applying this new way of helicopter surveillance," Commissioner Dimitar Chorbadzhiev also said.
He added that now with the help of the helicopter, with the dropped level of the Danube, "new places where there is a risk of illegal crossing" are very visible and they can take appropriate measures.
