Bulgarian students win five medals at astrophysics competition in Brazil

Bulgarian students won five medals at the International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics in Brazil, announced the Association of Olympic Teams in Natural Sciences. This is the most prestigious competition in astrophysics, and this year more than 260 high school students from 53 countries participated in it. 
The Bulgarian students won two silver and three bronze medals. Silver medals were won by Bayan Gechev (12th grade, Sofia Mathematical High School), and Lora Lukmanova (11th grade, Sofia Mathematical High School). Bronze medals went to Kaloyan Tsanev (11th grade, First Private Mathematical High School), Elena Yordanova (10th grade, Mathematical High School in Ruse) and Stella Bineva (11th grade, Natural and Mathematical High School in Haskovo).
At the Olympiad, their supervisors are Nikola Karavasilev and Zahari Donchev (Institute of Astronomy to the BAS).
So far in the history of the International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics, Bulgarian competitors have won 63 medals - 14 gold, 23 silver and 26 bronze.
