Bulgaria's Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, who is in the US for the Summit in New York, met in Chicago with businessmen, representatives of various Bulgarian organizations, schools and cultural centers.
He congratulated the representatives of the largest Bulgarian community abroad on Independence Day and stressed: "What we Bulgarians seem to be lacking is unity. And the politicians, if they unite, I am convinced that they will achieve much more in the interest of the Bulgarian citizens. Every Bulgarian, wherever he is, is important to us," BNR correspondent in the USA Elena Tsaneva reported.
On the occasion of the holiday and in honour of the first visit of a Bulgarian prime minister since the opening of the Consulate General in Chicago, the antennas of the tallest building in the city - Willis Tower, were lit in the colours of the Bulgarian national flag.
Responding to questions raised by the Bulgarian community, Glavchev said they have been reopening for a month on a social agreement on recognition of work experience from Bulgaria or the US, as well as on visa waivers, although so far without much progress.
