A total of 48 birds of the endangered imperial eagle hatched in Bulgaria this year, said the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds. This is the highest number registered by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds in the last 25 years since the monitoring of the species began.
In the spring of 2024, a total of 40 pairs of imperial eagles occupied nesting territories and 31 pairs began nesting. A record number of five pairs successfully reared three chicks each, whereas the species typically rears two chicks. These positive results are due to the longstanding conservation efforts in Bulgaria, as well as the favorable natural factors throughout the year.
