The Bulgarian Parliament, pointing out the key importance of the EU cohesion policy for the economic development of the regions in Bulgaria, insists that the Black Sea region receives equal recognition to the regions in the EU directly bordering Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. This is stated in a draft declaration on the country's position on the European Commission's proposed mid-term review of the cohesion policy. The draft was submitted by MPs from the ruling majority, BTA reports.
The document calls on the EU institutions to treat the Black Sea region equally to the other regions along the eastern border of the EU in the upcoming legislative and programming documents of the community.
The National Assembly has instructed the government to defend this position in the negotiations on the next EU financial framework for 2028-2034.
