Hundreds of Orthodox Christians set off on a pilgrimage to the Rila MonasteryWith this pilgrimage journey the participants mark the anniversary of the return of the relics of the patron saint of Bulgaria Saint Ivan (John) of Rila, Miracle-worker from Veliko Tarnovo to Rila Monastery. In 1469, at this time of the year, the monks followed this same trail carrying the holy relics, says Prof. Pavel Pavlov from the Faculty of Theology, as quoted by the Sofia municipality website.
