The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Borovets - the only wooden church in Bulgaria, marked its holiday today. A liturgy was served by Bishop Gerasim of Melnik. The Speaker of the National Assembly, Natalia Kiselova, was among the official guests.
The church was built in 1933-1934 in the Gothic style with a pointed bell tower made entirely of wood. It was consecrated on September 23, 1934 by Exarch Stefan. The church was built according to a project by famous architect Nikola Lazarov. The funds for its construction were collected by villa owners in Chamkoria, as Borovets was then called.
