The Constitutional Court has opened a case following the request by President Rumen Radev for the amendments to the Constitution, endorsed by the 49th National Assembly, to be declared unconstitutional. These amendments concern the lifting of the ban on dual citizenship as a mandatory condition for the election of members of parliament, the introduction of the principle of continuity of the term of office of the members of the MPs and of parliament, and the new rules for the appointment of a caretaker cabinet.
- Parliament votes in second reading to allow Bulgarians with dual citizenship to become MPs and ministers
- The Constitutional Court annuls recent judicial reforms and keeps the new caretaker cabinet
The Constitutional Court will rule on the matter for the second time, after failing to garner a majority for a ruling in the summer.
