After the adoption of the euro in Bulgaria on January 1, 2026, salaries, pensions, social benefits will not change their value, but will simply be converted from levs to euros at the official exchange rate of 1.95583 for one euro. This was announced at an information meeting in Plovdiv by Atanas Chernaev, the head of the Labor Inspectorate in the city, BTA has reported.
After January 1, bank accounts, loans, deposits and other accounts in levs will be automatically converted into euros. Payment of salaries and pensions after January 1 will be made only in euros. It will be possible to pay in levs until January 31, after which payments will be in euros, Chernaev said.
Next year, people will be able to exchange levs for euros free of charge until June 30 at any bank branch and post office branches in the country at the official exchange rate.
