In a statement to the media on the decision by the Supreme Court of Cassation to register the Old Calendar Orthodox Church of Bulgaria in the Register of Religious Denominations, acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said that the Bulgarian Orthodox Church is one and indivisible. The Religious Denominations Directorate of the Council of Ministers does not believe that a religious institution claiming to represent Orthodoxy should be registered by court order, after the status of the traditional religion has been settled.
Yesterday, GERB leader Boyko Borissov spoke out against the registration of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church of the Old Calendar. The Vazrazhdane party and the BSP also opposed the move.
Patriarch Daniil expressed his confusion as to why and how this decision was taken. He pointed out that there could not be two Orthodox churches on one canonical territory.
