Schengen internal land border controls for Bulgaria to be lifted at midnight

On 1 January 2025, 17 years after Bulgaria joined the EU on 1 January 2007, the country will also join the Schengen area by land, becoming a full member of the borderless travel area. Border controls between the country and Greece and Romania will be abolished. During the first six months, selective checks will be carried out on travellers.
We remind you that on 31 March 2024, border controls by air and sea will be abolished for the citizens of the country.
