Number of serious road accidents declined by 9% in 2024

In 2024, a total of 479 people died in serious road accidents in Bulgaria. There were 9,046 injured. In the first 5 months of 2024, the number of deaths decreased by 22% compared to 2023, the Road Safety Institute announced. In June 2024, the number of victims increased by 39% compared to the same month in 2023. Then there was another decline in the number of victims in the period July-October by an average of 24% compared to the same period in 2023. The last two months of the previous year were again characterized by a significant rise in the number of victims by 39%. The institute says that road accident risk management is poor due to an unstable transport system.
