Greek track and field athlete Miltiadis Tentoglou named Best Athlete in the Balkans for 2024

The winner of the 51st edition of the Bulgarian News Agency's "Athlete of the Balkans" poll for 2024 is Greek track and field athlete Miltiadis Tentoglou. Last year, Tentoglou won an Olympic title and gold medals from the World Indoor Championships and the European Outdoor Championships in the long jump. 
The top three positions are completed by swimmer David Popovici (Romania) and basketball player Nikola Jokic (Serbia). Bulgarian weightlifter Karlos Nassar and the winner of 24 Grand Slam titles Novak Djokovic (Serbia) shared fourth place.
The national news agencies of the countries in the region participated in the poll for "Athlete of the Balkans" - ANA-MPA (Greece), AGERPRESS (Romania), Anadolu Agency (Turkey), TANYUG (Serbia), MINA (Montenegro), MIA (Republic of North Macedonia), HINA (Croatia), FENA (Bosnia and Herzegovina), KNA (Cyprus), ATA (Albania) and KosovaPress (Kosovo).
A total of 38 athletes received votes in the 2024 vote, with the only Bulgarians outside the Top 10 being the Olympic freestyle wrestling champion Magomed Ramazanov (No. 13), the Olympic champion in classical wrestling Semen Novikov (No. 14), the Olympic vice-champion in rhythmic gymnastics Boryana Kaleyn and the tennis player Grigor Dimitrov, who share the 26th position.
