The project for the Ruse-Veliko Tarnovo motorway will undergo changes, but for now, it is not under threat, said Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov. He checked the progress of the construction of the bypass road around the town of Byala, part of the Ruse-Veliko Tarnovo motorway. Minister Ivanov emphasized that the project is strategically important, as it is part of the connectivity both between the northern and southern parts of the country and as a European transport corridor, reported BNR’s correspondent Asya Pencheva.
Ivan Ivanov explained that the authors of the project did not account for the loess soil of the Danubian Plain, which is why new technologies for its foundation need to be used. ''The chosen technology is also applied in other countries. The novelty here is that this motorway, in terms of height and length, will be something that has never been done anywhere else in the world", Minister Ivanov said.
The first sod of the Ruse-Veliko Tarnovo motorway, which will have a total length of 132.84 kilometers, was turned on December 3, 2023.
