The government will request an extraordinary convergence report to assess Bulgaria's readiness to join the eurozone. This is what Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov told journalists in Brussels, quoted by BTA.
He confirmed that joining the eurozone was a priority for both GERB and the government. In his words, the 2025 budget must comply with the Maastricht criteria. "Let us hope that the Bulgarian Parliament will also show the common sense to stay within the parameters of stability and sound fiscal policy," the prime minister said.
Asked when Bulgaria would request an extraordinary report, the prime minister said that this would be decided after the Eurogroup meeting on February 17.
