A team of 12 Bulgarian 11th grade students, led by Elitsa Pavlova, won first place among participants from around the world in the prestigious Live in a Healthy Space Design Competition organized by the National Space Society (NSS) in the US. The competition attracted 9,028 participants with 1,641 projects from 11 countries.
The Bulgarian project, called "Galanthus: The Early Spring of Plant Cultivation in Space", is about the first steps towards cultivating plants in space. It impressed the jury with its scientific approach and in-depth research in the field of space agriculture. It was created by students of the First English Language High School, the First Private Mathematical High School, the Professional High School of Chemical and Food Technologies in Varna, and the 133rd School "Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin".
The team has received an invitation to present their project at the National Space Society's Annual Congress in June in the United States.
