A serious train crash involving a train owned by the Bulgarian company PIMK has occurred near Craiova, Romania. According to initial information, the train conductor of the private Bulgarian company, who is a Romanian citizen, died in the accident.
According to information from the Romanian national railway company CFR, the incident occurred after the carriages of a freight train loaded with cars derailed and ended up on an adjacent track. The Bulgarian company's train was moving along it and hit the derailed carriages. The accident occurred at around 10.45 a.m. today.
A little over a month ago, a freight train owned by the company PIMK  suffered an accident in Bulgaria. Two people died and six were injured in the incident.
In a press release on the incident, the Employers' Organization of Private Railway Companies in Romania criticized the deplorable state of the railway infrastructure in Romania, which threatens the safety of citizens and staff.
"The chronic lack of maintenance funds, combined with the negligence and disinterest of the authorities, has turned train travel into a real lottery with the lives of citizens. Against the backdrop of poor infrastructure, not a day goes by without an accident on the railways and number of accidents in rail transport has increased alarmingly," the organization said.
