Women under 30 are most at risk of workplace harassment in Bulgaria

Nearly 19% of over 800 working Bulgarians surveyed have been victims of sexual harassment at their workplace, almost 90% of the victims are women. Among those most at risk of becoming victims of sexual harassment are women under 30, according to data released on the eve of International Women's Day.
The study was conducted on the initiative of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation-Bulgaria and the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB), in the period July - September 2024.
It also summarizes the consequences for the victims - 32 percent indicate that they feel uncomfortable at their workplace, 14% are considering changing it, and 13% share that they fall into depressive states.
Among the most common forms of sexual harassment in the workplace are inappropriate glances and innuendos, obscene sexual jokes and insults, and unwanted physical contact. Violence and harassment in the workplace affect not only productivity, but also the health and psyche of the worker, union leaders emphasize and issue an appeal - "Let's break the silence! and not let Harassment and violence in the workplace go unpunished."
