Yoana Ilieva won silver at the Heraklion Women's Individual Sabre World Cup. At the end of last year, she won bronze at the Women’s Sabre Grand Prix in France. In January she earned bronze at the 2025 Tunis Women’s Sabre Grand Prix. She also made history in Bulgarian women’s fencing by winning the Plovdiv Women's Individual Sabre World Cup in January.
At the competition in Greece, the Bulgarian fencer proved her class again, just falling short of winning the gold. In the final, she was defeated 12-15 by two-time world champion Misaki Emura from Japan.
Thanks to her silver medal, Yoana Ilieva, who is ranked fifth in the world, will move up to a higher position in the rankings.
