The number of people with kidney problems is increasing, announced on today's World Kidney Day Prof. Biser Borisov, head of the Nephrology Clinic of the University Hospital "Dr. Georgi Stranski" in Pleven.
According to him, chronic kidney diseases affect no less than 10% of the world's population and there are no major geographical differences. The most common causes are the aging population and "the real pandemic called obesity".
Early diagnosis is particularly important for high-risk patients, Prof. Biser Borisov emphasized in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio. Therefore, it is necessary to do laboratory tests of urine and blood once a year. It has been proven that changes in lifestyle and nutrition, as well as the use of kidney-protective medications, can reduce the progression of even already existing kidney disease.
The specialist advises us to drink more water, move more and reduce salt intake.
