In a statement issued today, President Rumen Radev said, "Fearing the outcome of a referendum on Bulgaria's readiness to adopt the euro in 2026, the new parliamentary majority has trampled on the Constitution and the law, using the Speaker of the National Assembly as a tool." The President was responding to the Speaker of Parliament Natalia Kiselova’s decision not to consider his proposal for a national referendum on the following question: "Do you agree that Bulgaria should adopt the single European currency, the euro, in 2026?"
'This act destroys the little trust that remains in the institutions and exposes their claims to be working in the interests of the people and respecting their will. The parliamentary majority is marching toward the eurozone, while distancing Bulgaria from a Europe based on democracy and the rule of law," he added.
