Negotiations for a vote of no confidence in Rosen Zhelyazkov's government will begin after July 9, when Bulgaria's adoption of the euro becomes irreversible. "We Continue the Change" (PP) announced this at a National Assembly briefing, according to BTA. PP co-chairman Kiril Petkov told journalists that the discussion with their partners from "Democratic Bulgaria" is about the date, not whether there is reason to vote. Petkov cited healthcare, education, Interior Ministry issues, corruption, and the rule of law as examples of the government's failures.
However, the PP's coalition partners, "Democratic Bulgaria" (DB), were hesitant and postponed the vote against the cabinet. Yesterday, DB stated that the conditions for a vote of no confidence will only be met in September, when the budget for 2026 is being prepared and in view of the euro adoption process. BNR reporter Maria Fileva reported that the DPS around Ahmed Dogan hinted at possible support for the vote. GERB leader Boyko Borissov, for his part, described the initiative as "cowardly." Borissov said that an early election would prevent Bulgaria from joining the eurozone on January 1, 2026.
