Bulgaria took part in the international forum “European Salt Heritage Route”. The initiative was held from June 5 to 8 at the Wieliczka Mine near Krakow in Poland, the National Archaeological Institute with Museum of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences announced.
“The initiative opens up new opportunities for international cooperation, popularization of the Bulgarian archaeological heritage and consolidation of the region on the map of European cultural tourism. With its over 7,600-year-old past, the saltworks site near the town of Provadia known as Solnitsata is recognized as the oldest salt mining center in Europe and the earliest fortified settlement structure on the continent", the institute said.
