The Constitutional Court has rejected as inadmissible President Rumen Radev's request to overturn the decision of Parliament Speaker Nataliya Kiselova. With her decision, Kiselova prevented the MPs from considering the head of state's request to hold a referendum on joining the eurozone from January 1, 2026.
The decision of the magistrates was unanimous with 12 votes, the Constitutional Court announced. There will certainly be no referendum on adopting the euro as the national currency.
Radev announced his request to hold a referendum on joining the eurozone on May 9, Europe Day, in a special address to the nation. A week later, he submitted his request to parliament, but it was immediately returned by Nataliya Kiselova.
