The European Commission has opened penalty proceedings against five countries, including Bulgaria, for incorrectly implementing changes to European drinking water regulations, BTA reports. The countries were supposed to implement the amended regulations by January 12, 2023.
The amended rules affect water quality requirements and introduce measures against losses in water pipes. It has been established that on average 30% of drinking water is lost during delivery to consumers.
Proceedings continue against Bulgaria and three other countries for failure to comply with European noise rules, including with appropriate urban planning and noise protection measures, the EC informed. The rules stipulate that countries must approve noise pollution maps in large settlements, along main railway lines, main roads and around major airports, which will provide a basis for identifying measures to reduce noise pollution.
