The ministers of economy and finance of the EU member states unanimously backed the Eurogroup's recommendation that Bulgaria should join the euro area on 1 January 2026, Polish Finance Minister Andrzej Domański announced, as reported by BNR correspondent Angelina Piskova.
'I welcome today's ECOFIN decision in favour of Bulgaria joining the euro area on 1 January next year,' said EU Economy Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, as quoted by BTA.
The final vote will take place on 8 July in the EU Council.
