Bulgarians in the United States have founded an organization in support of Bulgarian classical music in the USA and around the world, BTA reports. The founders and co-chairs of “Bulgarian Classical Concerts – Los Angeles” are violinist Blagomira Lipari and composer Penka Kouneva, a Grammy winner.
The organization’s mission is to promote solo, chamber, orchestral, vocal and choral music by Bulgarian composers. In a series of concerts in Los Angeles, the West Coast and elsewhere, the audience will be introduced to Bulgarian and world masterpieces that are not popular enough abroad, the BG VOICE website reports.
“We have composers who are like a golden treasure in the music of Bulgaria, we want to showcase them through our organization,” say Blagomira Lipari and Penka Kouneva. Another goal of “Bulgarian Classical Concerts – Los Angeles” is to include young musicians in master classes and innovative concert programs.
The organization’s first concert titled “A Musical Journey Through Bulgaria: Classical Music and Beyond” took place on March 21, 2020, with the support of the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Los Angeles.
The program for the 2025-2026 season includes three chamber concerts featuring musicians from “Juilliard-New York” and Europe, who will perform in partnership with their Bulgarian colleagues from the American city.
