Bulgarian director Stefan Komandarev’s new film Made in EU has been selected for the official programme of the Venice Film Festival. The feature will screen in the “Spotlight” section, which showcases eight films noted for innovation, artistic originality and strong audience appeal across various genres.
Each title in the section will be shown four times at the Giardino theatre and accompanied by public talks with directors, actors, and figures from the arts and cultural sectors. Audiences will also have the chance to vote for the Armani Beauty Audience Award.
“With this selection, we’ve achieved something of a cinematic Grand Slam – our films have now featured at all three major festivals: Cannes, Venice, and Berlin,” Komandarev commented.
Made in EU follows the story of Iva, a seamstress in a small town, and her son. When Iva is blamed for the outbreak of a local pandemic, she becomes a scapegoat — targeted by the very system that has long profited from her labour.
