On Thursday morning, temperatures will range from 19 to 23°C, 21°C in Sofia. Considerable cloud cover is expected over the eastern regions during the morning, with showers likely in north-eastern Bulgaria. The rest of the country will see sunny weather. In the afternoon, clouds will build over the mountains and there will be isolated, brief showers and thunderstorms in the western massifs. Winds will be light to moderate from the east. Maximum temperatures will range from 35 to 40°C, reaching around 36°C in the capital. There is a nationwide orange heat alert.
The morning in the mountains will start off sunny. Later in the day, clouds will increase, bringing short rain showers and thunder to some western ranges. Winds will be moderate from the east-southeast, turning to the southwest at higher altitudes. The maximum temperature at 1,200 metres will be around 31°C and around 24°C at 2,000 metres.
Along the Black Sea coast, it will be mostly cloudy in the morning, with light showers possible in the north. Before midday, the skies will clear to become mostly sunny. Winds will blow moderately from the east-northeast. Air temperatures will range from 27 to 31°C. Sea temperatures will range from 25 to 26°C, but will be notably cooler – between 15 and 18°C – north of Kaliakra and near Ahtopol. The sea will be slightly to moderately rough, with waves reaching force 2–3 on the Beaufort scale.
In the mountains, it will be mostly sunny in the morning. From midday onwards, cumulus clouds will develop and there will be isolated showers with thunder in the western ranges. Winds will be light to moderate.
Friday will be sunny and extremely hot, with temperatures in the lowlands reaching 41–42°C.
