Bulgaria's Minister of Justice Georgi Georgiev informed the European Chief Prosecutor Laura Kövesi in Luxembourg about the expected reforms for the activities of the European Public Prosecutor's Office in Bulgaria, the press center of the Ministry of Justice announced.
Georgi Georgiev stated that his ministry has prepared a draft amendment to the Criminal Code, which ensures the effective functioning of the European Public Prosecutor's Office in Bulgaria and overcomes the identified problems in the activities of delegated prosecutors related to the qualification of criminal encroachments involving European Union funds. The changes transpose the European directive on combating fraud affecting the financial interests of the EU.
It is planned that the criminal law will also cover EU employees, as well as create qualified chambers for mismanagement and crimes of office related to EU funds and affecting the financial interests of the Union.
