Bulgarian MEP from the Europe of Sovereign Nations group Petar Volgin, known for his pro-Kremlin position, condemns Russian interference in Eastern Europe. This is stated in the text of a draft resolution submitted by him and two other party members to the European Parliament, BNR correspondent Angelina Piskova reported from Brussels.
The resolution is about "strengthening Moldova's resilience against Russian hybrid threats and malicious interference". It is to be voted on at the plenary session in Strasbourg on September 10. However, the "sovereignists" condemn not only Russian, but also Western interference in Moldova.
Volgin and his party members are calling on the Commission to terminate all macro-financial assistance, budget support and any other financial assistance from the EU to Moldova. The rationale is that "EU taxpayers should not be forced to subsidize persistent weaknesses in governance abroad."
The debate on Moldova in the European Parliament is tomorrow, the day before the vote on the resolution. Also tomorrow, the country's President Maia Sandu will address MEPs.
