The environmental organizations "Greenpeace - Bulgaria" and "For the Earth" have announced that they are filing a complaint with the European Commission over the long-standing violations of environmental standards by four coal-fired power plants in Bulgaria - "Bobov Dol", "Brikel", "Republika" in Pernik and "Maritsa 3" in Dimitrovgrad.
According to the statement of the complainants, Bulgarian institutions are issuing permits to systemic polluters associated with businessman Hristo Kovachki.
Greenpeace also cites data on attacks on eco-activists, the latest example being the attack on Daniela Toneva on September 7. She revealed to the Bulgarian National Radio information about the dangerous air pollution in the area caused by the Bobov Dol coal-fired power plant.
