The Bulgarian government is considering the deployment of small modular reactors in Bulgaria. This became clear after the meeting of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov in New York with the Chief Corporate Officer of General Electric Vernova Roger Martella. The possibility of deploying the small reactors is being studied as a complement to the current project to build two Westinghouse units at the Kozloduy NPP site.
Other projects for cooperation with General Electric, such as new pumped-storage hydroelectricity (PSH) power stations and combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plants were also discussed during the meeting. Such a future power plant would be a key perspective that would preserve the role of the complex as an energy center in the country and the region.
