Japanese pop idol and actor Hiromitsu Kitayama was appointed Goodwill Ambassador to Bulgaria at a ceremony held at the Bulgarian Embassy in Tokyo on 24 September 2025. In a post on its official Facebook page, the embassy notes that Kitayama is one of Japan's most popular and recognisable J-pop performers.
