The contract with the Turkish state energy company BOTAŞ has already burdened Bulgargaz with over BGN 600 million (EUR 300 million), which the company is unable to repay, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said at an energy forum in Sofia, as quoted by BTA.
"Over a period of 13 years, the contract would cost the state around BGN 6 billion (EUR 3 billion). The question that needs to be asked is what its revenue-generating potential is? The main question is to what extent the national interest is being protected", Rosen Zhelyazkov added. According to him, the right policies are the foundation of sustainable development in the sector and a prerequisite for an attractive investment environment. He emphasized that energy is no longer just a resource, but the new currency of global politics, and outlined the development of new energy corridors, nuclear capacity and balancing capacities as key priorities.
