Starting October 15, Bulgaria's toll system has begun weighing heavy vehicles over 3.5 tons while they are in motion. The weighing process is fully automated.
"Currently, 10 out of nearly 100 planned devices have been certified. The sensors embedded in the asphalt work in sync with the cameras. If a vehicle is detected exceeding the permitted weight, the camera captures an image of the truck and issues an electronic fine. Offenders can be identified and fined within an hour while still traveling on the road network. This is a significant step forward in protecting the road infrastructure", commented Bulgaria’s Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov.
