Between January and September 2025, Bulgaria’s capital recorded a 10% increase in tourist arrivals and a 6% rise in overnight stays compared with the same period in 2024, according to data from the Unified Tourist Information System (ESTI). The municipal tourism enterprise Visit Sofia reported that more than one million tourists visited the city, with foreigners accounting for 63% and Bulgarians for 37%.
The growing interest in Sofia in 2025 highlights the city’s strengthening position as an attractive destination for international visitors.
According to the latest figures from the National Statistical Institute, the average length of stay in Sofia is 2.2 days. The largest numbers of visitors come from Italy, Greece, Israel, Turkey, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, Romania, the United States and France.
A significant increase was recorded among tourists from Israel (up 50%) and Poland (up 30%), while arrivals from the United Kingdom fell by 7%. The number of American visitors rose slightly, though their stays were shorter on average.
