The Bulgarian National Radio will host the 2025 Public Broadcasters International (PBI) Annual Conference. The prestigious forum will be held from 20 to 22 October for the first time in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.
The theme of the PBI annual conference is "Making the Case for Public Service Broadcasters". Participants will discuss fundamental topics such as freedom of speech, media independence, crises and financing of public media, as well as current issues such as attracting young audiences, negotiations with trade unions and Trump's America.
"The International Association of Public Broadcasters continues to be a unique platform for sharing insights, addressing challenges and reaffirming our common commitment to the values of the public interest," said BNR Director General Milen Mitev and emphasized: "We want to highlight the power and importance of public broadcasters in an era of rapid change and growing uncertainty, to inspire meaningful conversations and to create new collaborations."
The conference will bring together leaders and representatives of public radio and television outlets from 24 countries across 5 continents.
The event will be opened by the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Radev, PBI Secretary General David Jordan from the BBC and BNR Director General Milen Mitev.
