The Institute of Agriculture-Kyustendil will celebrate the Festival of Agricultural Science today with a tasting of new apple varieties and hybrids, the institute’s director, Associate Professor Iliyana Krishkova, told BTA. Farmers will be presented with fruits from specific varieties and hybrids that have managed to endure throughout the year despite unfavorable conditions.
The institute cultivates over 460 apple varieties on a total area of 200 decares. Yields vary, and in some years, harvests have reached around 300 tons of apples.
Experts are working on developing new varieties and cultivation technologies. The Institute of Agriculture also has orchards of cherries, plums and grapes.
