Mariya Gabriel from GERB allegedly tried to have sanctions lifted for Delyan Peevski and other individuals. This took place while she was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in Nikolay Denkov’s government, said in Parliament Bozhidar Bozhanov, co-chair of Democratic Bulgaria.
''We received information that Mariya Gabriel, in her then capacity as Bulgaria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and representative of GERB, had correspondence with the United Kingdom regarding the removal of Bulgarian citizens from the UK’s sanctions list'', said Bozhidar Bozhanov. ''The question now is whether similar efforts are currently being made from GERB, from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, from Temenuzhka Petkova, or from the Prime Minister'', Bozhidar Bozhanov said.
He also rejected recent media reports that Hristo Ivanov had offered Delyan Peevski removal from the Magnitsky sanctions list in exchange for support for a chief prosecutor nominated by Democratic Bulgaria.
