MPs elected GERB's Kostadin Angelov as deputy speaker of parliament. 132 MPs voted "for", 53 voted "against" and 11 abstained. Angelov replaces GERB's Raya Nazaryan, who was elected speaker of parliament after previous parliamentary speaker Natalia Kiselova withdrew from the Bulgarian Socialist Party.
In the plenary hall, Boyko Borisov, the leader of GERB, the largest party in the ruling majority, signed the opposition coalition's "We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria" demand for the resignation of the chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission.
The opposition believes that Anton Slavchev is responsible for the ongoing investigation into Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev, who is being held in custody on corruption charges. No MP from the majority has signed the opposition's demand so far.
