The National Assembly has temporarily banned the export and intra-EU delivery of petroleum products, mainly diesel and aviation fuel. The decision was approved with 135 votes in favour, 4 against, and 42 abstentions, following a proposal submitted by MPs from GERB–SDS, BSP–OL, and DPS–New Beginning.
The restriction applies to petroleum products at risk of artificial price inflation. Lawmakers cited the need to ensure the country’s energy security and the stability of the domestic fuel market, particularly in light of US sanctions against Russian energy companies, including those linked to the Lukoil group.
The ban does not apply to the refuelling or transhipment of local or foreign vessels and aircraft, nor to intra-EU deliveries for the armed forces of EU and NATO member states.
