With 111 votes for, 51 against and 43 abstained, the National Assembly approved the establishment of an ad-hoc committee to investigate the activities of George Soros and his son Alexander Soros and their foundations in this country financing Bulgarian individuals and legal entities and NGOs, as well as to establish their connection to political parties, magistrates, educational institutes, media outlets, business structures and state authorities.
The new committee was proposed by DPS-New Beginning and received the support of Vazrazhdane, the Bulgarian Socialist Party, ITN, MECH, Velichie and independents. A proposal, submitted by Vazrazhdane, for the ad-hoc committee to also investigate the activities of other foundations and NGOS – Open Society, America for Bulgaria, Friedrich Ebert, Konrad Adenauer and Hanns Seidel - was rejected.
The MPs also rejected another proposal by Vazrazhdane – that a parliamentary committee review all facts and circumstances surrounding the construction and financing of Hayashi Hotel in Sofia, owned by PM Rozen Zhelyazkov’s family which is a 5-storey complex with a total useful floor area of over 4,000 sq. m., BNR’s Maria Fileva reports.
