The Varna District Court has released the city’s mayor, Blagomir Kotsev, on a financial bond of €102,258. Before the court’s decision was announced, supporters of the mayor and members of the We Continue the Change party gathered outside the courthouse, greeting the news with jubilant chants, according to BGNES.
Kotsev was detained on 8 July this year on charges of corruption and involvement in an organised criminal group. Four months later, the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office filed an indictment with the Sofia City Court, and on 19 November the Supreme Court of Cassation ruled that the case should be heard in the Varna District Court.
