After
five months in custody, Mayor of Varna, Blagomir Kotsev, was released
this morning. Yesterday, the Varna District Court decided to release
him on bail of 102 258 euro. The huge sum was collected in four hours
by citizens and brought to the court.
“I
have a responsibility to the people of Varna that I must fulfill, but
first I want to kiss my children. I hope that on Monday I will go to
work and we will be in the right rhythm, because the city needs it,”
Blagomir Kotsev told the citizens who gathered to welcome him. He
added that this is a lesson and that many conclusions can be made.
“People
can see what can happen to anyone. During the trial, the whole truth
will become clear,” the mayor added. He thanked everyone who
protested 14 times to support him and for the quickly collected
amount for the bail.
Blagomir
Kotsev was arrested on July 8 this year on charges of corruption and
participation in an organized crime group. Four months later, the
Sofia City Prosecutor's Office filed an indictment with the Sofia
City Court, and on November 19, the Supreme Court of Cassation
decided to hear the case in the District Court in Varna.
