Markup of basic food products in large retail chains is between 70 and 130%. This is shown by the interim sectoral analysis of the Commission on Protection of Competition, which has been monitoring the modern retail sector of agricultural and food products for nearly half a year.

Basic food products such as milk and dairy products, meat and meat products, flour and bread, eggs, oil and mineral water were monitored, reporter Vesselina Milanova informed. There is no coordination of prices between individual retail chains, but the markups are impressive. "91% for cheese, 73% for minced meat, 89% for eggs. The highest markup we have found is for mineral water - 135%," Zhelyu Boychev from the CPC said. At the end of this week, the commission is organizing a public discussion of the analysis.
