GERB party, which holds the mandate of the ruling majority in parliament, has expressed readiness for early elections. GERB leader Boyko Borissov wrote on Facebook: "I stop complying and silently accepting absurd demands on the undoubtedly poorly structured budget. Either stand with GERB and together we can work in a majority of 121 MPs, making a new budget, or we will have elections." This is Borissov's first reaction after protests against the state's draft budget for 2026.
Protesters and the opposition are demanding the government's resignation and President Rumen Radev has called for early parliamentary elections. On December 3, the parliament will consider the government's request to withdraw the draft budget. At the same time, the MPs must also discuss the president's request to hold a referendum on the introduction of the euro in the country on January 1, 2026.
