A new programme approved by the Council of Ministers will allow talented school and first-year university students who have excelled in international competitions to study free of charge at Bulgarian higher education institutions and receive scholarships.

Launched by the Ministry of Education and Science, the initiative forms part of the government’s efforts to retain young talent in the country and create more opportunities for their professional development in Bulgaria.

Support will be available to laureates of international competitions who have won gold, silver or bronze medals in subjects including mathematics, informatics, physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, linguistics, geography and earth sciences, and artificial intelligence. Students continuing their studies at Bulgarian universities will be exempt from tuition fees and will receive a scholarship equivalent to the national minimum wage for the year, capped at €665. The total budget for the programme is €3.6 million.
