Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and the European Commission signed in Brussels a memorandum of cooperation on the development of transport infrastructure in the region.
This is a turning point for our region and for Europe; for decades the idea of completing the north–south axis has remained only on paper, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov. In his words, new bridges over the Danube are needed because they are important for the entire continent, not only for the three countries involved in the memorandum.
European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas stated that the new transport links will be essential for supply chains and for the movement of troops and equipment from Greece to Moldova and Ukraine. Tzitzikostas explained that by the end of 2026 a financing plan will be prepared for the projects under the EU’s next multiannual budget.
